Taj Mahal
Taj Mahal, Agra
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and symbol of love.
Historical Background
The construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1632 and was completed in 1648, although the surrounding structures and garden took an additional five years to finish. The mausoleum was constructed by 20,000 artisans under the guidance of court architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri. Shah Jahan's vision for the Taj Mahal was influenced by Persian, Islamic, and Indian architectural styles, culminating in a design that epitomizes symmetry and grandeur. The monument also reflects the opulence and artistic advancements of the Mughal era. It remains a testament to the emperor's love for his wife and his passion for creating enduring legacies.
