Taj Mahal

 Taj Mahal, Agra

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and symbol of love.

Architectural Design and Features

The Taj Mahal's architectural brilliance lies in its perfect symmetry and intricate detailing. Built primarily from white marble sourced from Makrana in Rajasthan, the structure is adorned with semi-precious stones like jade, crystal, turquoise, and lapis lazuli. The central dome, rising 73 meters high, is flanked by four minarets, each slightly tilted outward to protect the mausoleum in case of an earthquake. The interior houses the cenotaphs of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan, although their actual graves lie in a crypt below. The calligraphy on the walls, executed by Amanat Khan, adds to its artistic allure.
